Select a month in order to view pictures from the Student Spotlight program.
The Student Spotlight program awards students on a bi-monthly basis for a positive behavior, talent, or character trait recognized by the teacher. This selection criterion makes it possible for all students to be eligible.
How Can I Become a Spotlight Student?
- Begin the day by smiling and greeting each other. Everyone likes to hear "Good Morning!"
- Learn to be a self-starter, especially in the morning when you come into the room. Learning begins when you line up to come into school in the morning.
- Be optimistic. Enjoy what you are doing. Beginning with the lineup in the morning, have a positive attitude.
- Help each other to feel a sense of belonging in your classroom community of learners. Be open to all points of view. Give every student the opportunity to be an individual without judgment or criticism.
- Participate! Share in class and encourage your friends to do the same. Learn to really listen to what the other person has to say.
- Be solution-oriented. If you tell your teacher about a problem, be prepared to suggest a solution (a way to solve it).
- Be willing to compromise (see someone else's point of view).
- Get excited about your assignments and let your work show how proud you are to be doing your best!
- Learn good language habits. Use clear answers like “Yes", "No", and "I don't know."
- Follow the rules in the classroom and hallways, on the Red Top, and in the cafeteria. Set a good example for each other.
- Learn ownership. Take care of yourself. Don't blame others.
- If something is bothering you, please talk to your teacher, or get permission to see your counselor. Write us a note if that will be easier for you.
- We encourage you to participate in the Reading Counts Program. Readers are leaders!
- Share it with your parents. Remind parents that they are invited to join Spotlight Students for lunch!
